Welcome back, Ezra!
Here's what you might have missed
๐Here's what you might have missed
Tap a story to read it. Then tell me what you thought with the buttons underneath. Tap Save to keep a story around.
๐Saved for later
These stay here until you unsave them, even after new stories arrive.
๐ฏPicked for you
The more stories you rate, the better these picks get.
๐๏ธSports Zone
Your teams' latest scores and next games, then sports stories from all over.
๐งKids like you
Stories where kids are the stars, or grown-ups remember being one.
๐ Your reading scoreboard
Every minute you spend reading a story earns 10 points. Rating a story earns 2.
๐๏ธAll the stories
Tap a topic to filter.
๐ For grown-ups
Every story comes from a free, kid-safe outlet with no paywall, and each one was screened for age-appropriate content before it was added. Tapping a story opens the original article in a new tab on the outlet's own site.
Ezra's reactions so far
How the picks work
Each story carries topic, league and team tags. A thumbs up adds a point to every tag on that story, double thumbs adds two, a thumbs down takes two away, and "Meh" is zero. Opening a story counts for half a point. "Picked for you" ranks unrated stories by those tag points, with a head start for sports and for stories about kids, plus a small boost for newer stories, and never more than two picks on the same topic in a row. The morning refresh reads the same tag points to choose new stories, while always keeping a mix of leagues and non-sports topics.
How reading minutes are counted
When Ezra taps a story, a timer starts. When he comes back to this page, the time away counts as reading, up to 15 minutes per story and only if the tab was away less than 30 minutes (so a tab left open overnight earns nothing). Under 20 seconds doesn't count. It's a proxy, not surveillance: there's no tracking inside the article itself.
Where the data lives
Reactions, saves, minutes and points are stored in this browser on this device.
Parent preview
In preview mode you can browse without anything counting as Ezra's: no headlines marked seen, no reactions, minutes, points or visits recorded, and no sync. Opening the app's address with #parent on the end turns it on automatically; the switch below turns it on for this tab only.
How the refresh works
A check runs every four hours. When Ezra has opened the app since the last refresh and that visit was at least 24 hours ago, new stories are gathered and the page is republished. At that point every unsaved story he has seen (a headline that sat on screen, a rating, or a story he opened) is removed, headlines he never scrolled to stay for next time, and saved stories stay until he unsaves them. Each refresh emails the full headline list.
